Who We Are

Deborah The Brave Ministries

Rebecca Chavez - Executive Director

Rebecca Chavez - Executive Director, Founder, Speaker I am married to my best friend Gerry Chavez, who is the lead pastor of Christ's Church, and we make our home in Roswell, New Mexico. I have two grown sons, Benjamin and his wife Nicole are our youth pastors and Nick who is studying at Texas Tech University.

Before being married I lived in Jerusalem from 1985 - 1987 with a heart to serve and stand with the people of Israel based on what I feel is a biblical mandate according to Genesis 12:2-3. After Faith and Family, Israel and her people are my first love.

I feel honored to be the Roswell City Director for Christians United for Israel and absolutely love bringing pro-Israel events to our area to foster understanding between Christians and Jews and raise awareness for the state of Israel.

I am driven; I admit it, although my husband would term it “intense”! I am relentless to love what God loves and Intimacy with Him is my highest goal.

I serve as Co-Women’s Ministry Leader at Christ’s Church and my heart beats to speak and write about my struggles, weaknesses and triumphs in order to bring hope and freedom to others. I just may be painfully transparent! I love to encourage and launch people into their God given gifts and passions. I have raised a family, been in support ministry for years and understand the lie that it is too late to start or do something that matters.

To this end I have written many original bible studies, “Stringing Pearls” a study on Ruth, “The Chamber” a study on the Song of Solomon, and “Deborah the Brave” based on Deborah the Prophetess just to name a few. Please visit our event topics page to see the entire list of Bible Study and event topics available.

I founded Deborah The Brave Ministries and The Deborah Project out of love for The Bride of Christ and the land and people of Israel. Growing up in a divorced home, experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and Anxiety as an adult I believe have made me a more compassionate person and in a small way allowed me to identify with the lost and broken. We are all equally in need of God’s love and mercy.

I also believe without the support of other 'Deborah' spirited friends I would never have launched out to find my voice and step out into the unknown of starting a ministry and outreach project. To them and my church community, I am eternally grateful. God is raising up modern day Deborah’s, mothers and fathers willing to fight for faith, family and freedom in Christ and become all God intended them to be.

I love walking the streets of Jerusalem, the beach, a great cup of coffee with great conversation, diving into a new study book and I must add, it's always a good idea to have a few pushy friends!!

Mary Ann Wootton - COO, Marketing Director

I have experienced first-hand the disgrace, poverty, humiliation and shame associated with the words “divorced family” whispered behind our backs in the school, church and community. By age 9, I was being raised by a single mother who was trying to support four children and grieve the one child who went to live with my father’s blended family.  Moreover, my children experienced this stigma while I was raising them as a single mother; but by God’s grace, they have been able to break this cycle and are happily married with children of their own.

For 20 years I have had a heart for humanitarian and ministry work; whether working with the American Cancer, American Heart Association, coordinating youth activities, or rotating as worship leader in two small congregations.  I enjoyed 10 years as prayer team leader for a Christian producer and director as well as 3 years as Prayer Chair for E-Teen Community Bible Study.

My career has spanned 30 years in the advertising and public relations arena; so it was natural to start a ministry spreading the Visual Bible’s Gospel of Matthew and Gospel of Acts videos to pastors in North and South America free of charge.  At the same time I was on the founding board for Golden Rule Broadcasting, and recently asked to remain an honorary board member. I have assisted other non-profit ministries and organizations in various roles and responsibilities.

In 2011, I assumed the role of administrative assistant to Rebecca Chavez. Together we planned Israel awareness community events, as well as planning and executing a “Stand with Israel” billboard campaign in three cities within New Mexico, which are still active today.

My love for prayer, the word of G-d, Israel and ministry have collided as I join two tremendously gifted women in conceptualizing, developing and launching Deborah The Brave Ministries and The Deborah Project, as the Vice-President.

Whether here in America, in Israel or any other country the Lord opens up to us; won’t you join your gifts, talents and donations with ours as we step into the lives of others to Empower and Equip?

Broken to be Brave

Our ministry is to restore hope, honor and dignity to audiences and individuals who desire to be empowered and equipped to embrace a personal sense of self-worth and unique identity given to all by a loving Creator. Those who are broken and hopeless and those who are not all benefit from recognizing their individual self-worth and value to others. Simply put, based on our own individual lives and experiences and the freedom we have gained,  the leadership team of Deborah The Brave Ministries is compelled to co-partner with God in ensuring all who come to us will discover the truth of their true Identity. Every person no matter how successful is not complete nor fulfilled without a true inner connection with God and knowing they are completely loved and accepted by Him. This inner-knowing can change the world, person by person. Won’t you join us?

Deborah the Brave

Deborah was the 4th Judge of Israel and governed for 20 years and one can read her story and exploits in Judges 4 and 5 in the Bible. What made Deborah different? For one, she was a woman ruling in a time when men were the military and community leaders. She was a wife, military leader, Judge and prophetess and often called ‘The Mother Heart of Israel.’ She is among many of the brave women in the Bible who possessed leadership skills and moral clarity along with a willingness to obey God despite personal sacrifice, community pressure and extremely stressful and bewildering circumstances. I often wonder what it would have been like to carry such great responsibility and live under pressure with such grace, confidence and boldness the way she did. She was brave no doubt but was she common, normal or afraid to make the right decisions for her Hebrew family and community? So much rested on her shoulders and yet she persevered through mounting obstacles and a vast and powerful enemy surrounding her nation. She prepared herself for these challenges in the secret place with God and carried out everyday life with the wisdom and strength the Spirit of God imparted to her. She was an unlikely choice for a military genius much less leader but she clothed herself with the passion to see her people to victory. Her difference was her willingness. You can possess the same power and qualities as this brave woman from the Bible. It makes no matter whether you are male or female, we are all designed and destined for greater things just like Deborah.

Deborah The Brave Ministries Story

The vision for Deborah the Brave Ministries was inspired and the mission began during a weekly Bible Study with a group of women studying with Rebecca Chavez about Deborah the Prophetess and Judge from the Book of Judges found in Judges 4 and 5. The Bible Study was called Deborah The Brave, written and taught by Rebecca and the topics included, courage to move forward, changing a negative mindset, transforming behavior through the unveiling of the Love of God and obtaining a lifestyle where destiny and dreams are fulfilled. Deborah was brave and bold, a military leader yet submitted to the wisdom God entrusted to her, she became our inspiration and so the ministry was named after her. Our prayer is that those whose lives we touch will rise up as Deborah to find courage and strength to step into the purpose for which they were created.

Because Identity is critical for all, deeply rooted in the discovery is our connection as Christians to the land, promises and people of Israel. Romans 11 clearly states that our faith is deeply rooted in the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and ultimately our Savior who was Jewish. Our only response is to therefore be grateful, supportive and honor our Jewish brothers and sisters, the debt to them can only be re-paid with our love and action. Thus, out of that first Bible Study a collection was received and Rebecca delivered it to a struggling single mother in Israel juggling health issues, work, motherhood and abandonment. As they spoke this brave one told her about many of her other friends and neighbors who were also single mothers and surviving very poorly from day to day. Out of this experience The Deborah Project was born, aiding Israel’s most vulnerable populations and those who fall through the traditional ‘aid’ channels unnoticed.
