Dead Sea or Living Waters?

by Kristy Fricker

Father God has given us all we need to continue to move forward in this life. He has made us strong enough, wise enough, loving enough…He has given us everything we need to push through and continue to grow. But we must continue to move forward, we can never stop.

I heard a message once about the Dead Sea, so I decided to study it. It turns out that The Dead Sea is an amazing lesson about life that we all can learn from. So, let me tell you a bit of what I learned about the Dead Sea.

The Hebrew term for the sea, Yām ha-Māvet, translates as ‘The Sea of Death.’ The Dead Sea is ‘actually’ dead. No fish, no birds, no snakes, no flora or fauna…nothing. At 35% salinity, just shy of 10% saltier than the earth’s oceans, plants and animals cannot flourish. It sits at 1,407 feet below sea level, which just happens to be the Earth’s lowest elevation on land. Interesting.

The Jordan River is the Dead Sea’s only major tributary. There are some small natural feeder springs under the sea and around the shoreline. The springs around the sea form pools of water and quicksand along the beaches. What I found most interesting about the Dead Sea is the fact that there are no outlet streams…not one. There is no ‘flowing’ of water through or out of the sea, so it sits and stagnates…lifeless.

A good look at the Dead Sea can be good lesson for us…our spiritual lives. Father flows His Living Water into us and he wants us to allow it to continue to flow out of us.  We are not only meant to be filled with all the good things from God; we are meant to allow all things from God to flow through us and give it/pass it on to others.  We are meant to be the examples, the answers to prayer, the blessings in this dark world. We are to be His hands of Love into this dying world. We are to give this world life…His Life. But we have to allow His Living Water to flow THROUGH us.

We cannot dam up His Living Water. We can never stop moving forward, never stop learning, never stop giving, never stop flowing. If we do, we become stagnant and dead in our spirits. We were designed to flow this way. This is the Living Water Jesus was talking about:

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow r ivers of living water.” ~John 7:38

OUT of his heart…we are meant to be so full that we spill over, flowing to all in need of love, encouragement, peace, joy…all of it in a continual waterfall. When we do allow ourselves to be poured out…we make room for more to be poured into us. He is faithful to fill you to that overflowing point, but you have to ‘allow’ it to overflow into other’s lives. He needs and wants you to let it flow. BE the blessing, BE the love, BE the power, BE the peace, BE the strength, BE the revival…He has given the Living Water’s to you…LET IT FLOW into this dying world.

Unless you just ‘want’ to be the lifeless, dead, quicksand riddled, stagnant water that is dammed up and settled at the lowest valley on earth.

The only way to grow, is to LET IT FLOW.

The choice is yours.
